Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo is an actor par excellence. See how he dramatised his noble exit from the Peoples Democratic Party and not a defection to another party. I love that position he took.
This brings to public discourse, whether a former head of state should be barred from engaging in party politics. Since the constitution has made former heads of state, members of the National Council of State, it stands to good reason that they cease to be members of any political party, where they can give their advice on any issue, without party bias, or being accused of that. I think, this a preferred exit for any former head of state.
After all, their out of office, maintenance is guaranteed for life by the government. Obasanjo has publicly declared for this noble position.
Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abdullasarim are already doing just that. Others should emulate them.
